After School and Wednesday Art Camp (Grades K-5):

After school and Wednesday Art Camp will be similar to summer Art Camp. Each day will begin with an opening circle, and movement games followed by dance class where students will warm up their bodies, learn set material and create their own dances using a variety of themes, techniques and movements. There will be a snack break and games in the side yard at PNC after dance class and then students will set up the room for art class. The day will end with a clean up session and a closing circle, and ending games. A theater portion will be incorporated each day either in the form of theater games, or as a theater component added to dance class time and part of the performance piece created during the session.

This is our second year offering After School and Wednesday Art Camp programming at the Portland New Church. We have space for 12 students each day. You may sign up for individual days or a combination of days. Art Camp staff and students will follow the latest CDC guidelines for schools and after school programs. Families will be asked to submit daily health screenings and all staff and students will wear masks and abide by safe distancing guidelines. The Portland New Church is a one room space with excellent ventilation and a large side yard that we will use each day. Drop off and pick up will be in front of the building. Art Camp staff will be on location 15 minutes early to allow for early arrival. Students who attend schools who are dismissing at 3:30pm may still attend and we will adjust fees to reflect a shortened daily schedule. Please email Lisa if you have any questions.

Summer Art Camp (Grades K-8):

Art Camp, a kid-centered camp featuring certified instructors and professional artists, is now located on the spacious campus of Temple Beth El/Levey Day School at 400 Deering Avenue in Portland.

Campers (from kindergarten through grade 8) working with a large array of materials will explore a wide variety of visual art projects and be immersed in an all-camp theater production where they can choose to act, write, build scenery, or play in a live band creating original music for our show.

The youngest campers will produce their own theater piece and perform songs for the larger camp show! In addition, campers will have daily classes in hip hop, creative movement, and/or contemporary dance.

Other weekly activities will include all-camp scavenger hunts, making/cooking snacks from fresh garden ingredients, and the Art Camp Olympics, where campers play a variety of team building games. All the material created will be presented for families and friends at the end of each week.

Many campers and families return for the experience of Art Camp year after year, where kids are able to enjoy making art, playing, and enjoying summer in Maine.

*New in 2021 - we are offering three 2-week sessions. Each session operates Monday-Friday from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
