Dear Families,

I am writing to inform you that Art Camp 2021 will be held on the campus of Temple Beth El/Levey Day School. The TBE/Levey Day School is located at 400 Deering Avenue in Portland. After submitting a building use request in February, I was contacted by Portland Schools in late March and told that they were unsure if they would be renting to outside groups and would let me know as soon as they were able to confirm. I immediately began looking for an alternative space for Art Camp and after a short search I began negotiations with the Temple Beth El. TBE has been welcoming from the beginning of our discussions and on Monday, April 26th I signed a lease for summer 2021!  I informed Portland Schools this past week that I would be relocating Art Camp to the TBE.

I am very excited about this move. TBE is a beautiful, spacious, kid friendly facility. Art Camp will be using the lower school wing, social function hall, lower lobby, library as well as the entire front lawn. We will have 4 outdoor classroom sites on the front lawn with commercial tents. Each group or cohort will have a designated indoor space and will rotate to outdoor art areas throughout the day. Dance and theater activities will happen in the social hall and front courtyard. I will provide daily schedules to families for each group before camp begins. Another amazing feature of the TBE facility is that there is central air/air conditioning as well as windows along the entire wall space in each classroom. There are also air filtering/cleaning units in each classroom.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns at this time. Art Camp has been located at PATHS for many years and though I am sad to not be there, I am so thrilled to have such a beautiful campus to relocate to. I am also thankful for the  supportive and professional relationship I have embarked on with our new host, TBE. I am excited to offer the same excellent programming we have always provided in this new space.

I will be updating this website in the coming week with all details of our new space and our daily operating schedules as well as the latest CDC guidelines for summer camps.

Thank you for your support and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, Lisa Hicks, Director of Art Camp

Art Camp

Art Camp is a kid-centered camp featuring certified instructors and professional artists. Campers (from kindergarten through grade 8) explore a wide variety of visual art projects each week and work with a large array of materials. Campers also explore the performing arts through daily classes in theater, hip hop, and modern dance. At the end of each week campers and instructors organize an art show of weekly visual arts projects and a performance of theater and dance pieces for friends and family to enjoy. Other weekly activities include all-camp scavenger hunts and the Art Camp Olympics where campers play a variety of team building games.

Safety protocol: Art Camp is committed to offering a safe and supportive camp experience for campers, families, and staff. Art Camp staff and families will abide by the latest Maine CDC guidelines for schools/camps/after-school programs. Protocol will include daily health screenings completed by staff and campers, regular hand washing throughout the day, mandatory face coverings, limited class sizes, distancing in all activities, most of the day spent in outdoor classrooms for all groups, regular cleaning of all shared materials and surfaces. Campers will be assigned to small groups/cohorts and will be with the same cohort throughout the day for all activities including art, theater, and dance. There will be no mixing of cohorts for any activities. Each small group will have their own art, theater, and dance sessions and will move as a group for the duration of the camp session.
